New MDECP Report on the Impact of Low Wages on Quality of Care
The Maryland Center on Economic Policy recently released a report exploring the impact of home care workers’ low wages on quality of care. Maryland faces a shortage of home care workers as the state’s population ages, a problem exacerbated by insufficient compensation, inadequate reimbursement rates, and job misclassification. Meeting Maryland’s need for a robust care workforce, and protecting care workers—who are disproportionately women of color—will require the state to make changes to its labor policies.
